Learning Technology is an ever changing field that is focused on identifying, developing and managing technology-based solutions for teaching and learning. This involves a great deal of preparation for the various options that relate to meeting specific learning objectives. The goal is to find the best solution for your particular need, in your quest to offer a quality educational experience to learners. More and more, technology plays an important function in this process. The core role of the learning technologist, is to provide guidance and support through this team approach to designing, developing and managing resources. Whether it is technology based, or through conventional non-technical means, an instructional systems design (ISD) plan is important in providing a roadmap toward a successful learning outcome. Technology, if used effectively, can assist in building a solid foundation toward Knowledge Diffusion: that is, “The effective transmission of knowledge from those involved in research and development for those who have use for such knowledge”. (Keeves in Eraut, 1989, p.582) Therefore, planning is important. Learning technologists provide consultation throughout the various mental and physical activities that lead toward  the implementation and management of a comprehensive learning solution.
